Since becoming a massage therapist in 2001, it’s been a goal of mine to have my own practice, and it’s finally coming to fruition. I plan on this blog being a source of useful information and insights about massage, health and wellness, and also an outlet for personal creativity. So, you might encounter musings, anecdotal stories, photos, book recommendations, etc. Whatever my brain is processing, really! I’ll also be offering specials that will be posted here at least monthly.
To get an idea of my massage style, I thought I would tell you how I came up with the name Attune. Mostly, I wanted the name to suit me, and to connote, rather than denote, what type of work you can expect from me. I finally narrowed it down to three choices: 1.) Wellspring 2.) Integrative, and 3.) Attune.
I loved Wellspring at first, because I am a water sign (Aquarius), and the imagery - a cleansing, quenching spring of wellness - is vivid. Upon further reflection, I decided that not only is the word a little too corporate sounding, but it also has a sort of shallow, bubbly feel to it. The type of work I do is certainly not corporate, nor is it shallow or bubbly, but rather has a slow, introspective, bottomless feel.
Integrative was initially my second choice, because that is precisely what my work is - integrative. I integrate all the styles of massage I’ve been trained in - along with some instinctual nuances - into one, personalized session. But the creative flare I sought was lacking with this name.
Attune became the winner for it’s evocative, rich associations. When I hear this word, I imagine a deep sense of harmony. This is precisely what I strive for in my massage sessions: to bring balance to, to harmonize, to “attune” your sense of well-being. There are many instances in life where we become detached from our bodies, or our bodies feel like “parts” rather than the “whole” that it is. An Attune massage will bring you to a state of wholeness, where all of the parts fit together into one dynamic being.
Thank you so much for reading! I look forward to this journey. Be well, take good care, and stay attuned!
